A journey through Parma’s cuisine: from cold cuts to traditional desserts

Parma, recognized among the most famous cities of Emilia-Romagna, stands out for its excellent gastronomic culture, so much so that it was named in 2015 Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO.

Our culinary journey begins with the tasting of iconic cold cuts, such as Prosciutto di Parma and the Parma Cup. But what are the other savory delights that you can discover during a stay in Parma? Here is a selective but extremely inviting list:

Parma Ham: an example of cured raw ham the result of a tradition that uses exclusively Italian pork. It is distinguished by a meticulous and slow aging.

Culatello di Zibello: this elite salami, obtained from the processing of the most valuable part of the pig, the thigh, boasts a prolonged aging in the cellar that makes it unique in its pear shape.

Coppa di Parma: made with meat from the cervical area of the pig, it is expertly seasoned with salt, black pepper and other spices for a soft and rich in flavor.

Salame Felino:famous throughout the province of Parma, it is prepared with selected pork and flavored with black pepper and various spices, offering an intense but balanced flavor.

The journey through the flavors of Parma ends with traditional desserts, testimony of the high quality and variety that Parma cuisine offers to delight every palate:

Torta Verdiana: homage to the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi, born in Busseto, near Parma. This cake, made with shortcrust pastry, hides a delicious filling of pear mustard.

Chocolate Cake: a local version enriched with nuts and liqueur that enhances the flavor.

Torta delle Rose: cake made of puff pastry, filled with custard or apricot jam, whose shape reminds of roses.

These delicacies represent only a taste of the gastronomic riches of Parma, a true Italian culinary gem appreciated at European and world level.
